SUNDAY 21 JUNE (Father's Day in the UK)

Sunday's officially the first day of summer - though on Mallorca it feels as though it's been summer for ages!

We'll be hearing about Glynis Mitchell's interesting career, exciting plans for new educational developments here on the island and her life on our lovely island.

And we'll catch up with our Voice of the North, Ann MacDonald, who's been on one of the new guided walks around Alcudia Old Town. Find out all about it this Sunday!

SUNDAY JUNE 14

Last Sunday, we told you about a young couple, Emily and Ben, on holiday on Mallorca, who found themselves in a difficult situation when pregnant Emily was told she'd have to stay in hospital here until the baby was born. We had a great response - so thank you for that . . . although as you'll hear this weekend, the story had an unexpectedly good ending.

This week my guest is the UK-qualified health visitor and midwife who brought their plight to Radio One Marratxi's attention. Nayna Alonso grew up in the same north- west London street as the model Twiggy (though not at the same time!). She's always worked in the medical field, but has also taken time out to travel. Now happily married and with two small children, she lives and works on Mallorca.

Nayna joins me on the show tomorrow and I hope you will too. Tune in for chat, news, weather and what's on for your entertainment - and, of course, Mallorca's music -
from 10am til 1pm.

our lovely island, and play you Mallorca's best music.

SUNDAY MAY 31

My guest on this Sunday's programme first came to Mallorca to work in the year that The Archies had a hit with Sugar Sugar (1969, in case you wondered) and - apart from one summer spent working on the Costa Brava - she's been here ever since.

Lynda Walsh Furling has recently notched up 31 years working in the same hotel, the Hotel Cala Sant Vicenc, where she is now the directora. Lynda joins me for a chat about her life on the island, what it's like to run a hotel - I'm sure there'll be a funny story or two - and more.

Join me on Sunday from 10am for conversation, news, details of what's on for your entertainment on the island and great music too.

Catch you then!

MEDITERRANEA - EVERYTHING YOU GIVE, THEY GIVE

Dr Michael Stoma, the Mallorca-based GP and president of the charity Mediterranea, was an inspiring guest on today's show (May 17). If you'd like to find out more about this non-governmental organisation, which provides direct help to make a big difference to the lives of many people, check out their website www.mediterranea.org.es.

All donations, however small, are a great help towards their work. It costs 20 euros to feed, educate and clothe a child in their care. The happy faces in the pictures on their website speak volumes . . .

ROBERTO NEEDS A HOME!

Could you give a lovely cat a safe and loving home? Roberto - a black and white cat who is muy guapo needs a new home. He was found stray a few weeks ago by the wife of the boss of Manacor vet´s Mon Veterinari, and has been cared for there since then.

Roberto is about 2 years old, gorgeous - well look at the pictures! - and very affectionate. He´s a real cuddle cat . . .

He´s been castrated and checked over by the vets. He does, unfortunately, have feline leukaemia, which means he can´t be rehomed with other cats (the disease can spread between cats but not between cats and dogs - and he gets on OK with dogs). He´s well enough not to need any treatment or medication at the moment, though those might become necessary at some point in the future.

I´d have him myself, but already share my home with a Birman cat, so it´s not possible. Roberto is so sweet-natured and is desperate to find a new home and owner. Could that owner be you?

Please call Mon Veterinari to find out more information on 971 55 42 65

FEB 28, MARCH 1, 7 & 8

Radio One Marratxi's English programmes won't be broadcast for the next two weekends, as the station is providing a full broadcasting service in mallorquín during Marratxi's traditional Fira del Fang (ceramic and pottery fair) – now in its 25th year.

If you've never visited the Fira del Fang, make this the year that you go. There's lots on offer and you'll be able to see potters demonstrating the skills that have made Marratxi the centre of the island's ceramics production.

The Fira del Fang is held at Ses Tres Germanes (Ctra Inca, km 8,5) and runs until Sunday, March 8. Entrance is free and it's open daily from 10am until 8.30pm. For more information call 971 788 100.

We'll be back with English programmes from Saturday, March 14.

¡Hasta pronto!

GIVE IT SOME WELLIE FOR ELLIE

On yesterday's show I spoke to Peter Ledwidge of the Mallorca Golf Academy. Recently moved to new premises in Palma Nova, they now offer something unique for the island's golfers: a custom-built laboratory with the latest technology, designed to help players lengthen their drives.

To celebrate Mallorca Golf Academy's move, they're offering a one-hour driver "launch monitor session" for half-price, ie 25 euros, instead of the usual 50 euros, for ONE WEEK from March 1st.

Take advantage of this special offer and you'll be helping a little girl called Ellie, who's almost two and has spent most of the last nine months in hospital, on medication and undergoing transfusions. Doctors have not yet been able to diagnose what's wrong with this beautiful little child, who is certainly a fighter, and there's an active fundraising campaign to enable doctors to do more specialist tests to diagnose and treat her.

At the end of each one-hour session, Mallorca Golf Academy asks you to donate ONE EURO for every extra yard they can add to your drive – and that money goes to Ellie's Fund.

Book your place now by calling 971 681 833 or 669 188 050 – you'll improve your golf driving skills and help little Ellie.

All money raised is going to Victoria's Animal Refuge, so that they can rebuild their dog homing centre, which was recently devastated by floods.

OLGA has already presented 750 euros to the charity and hopes to raise a lot more through the sponsored walk.

Get your sponsorship form from Bar Oceano (which is offering some fun prizes for the event), from the Refuge charity shop or the Talk of the North office in Pto Pollensa.
